Drunken Watermelon

Ingredients

  • 1 smallish watermelon
  • 1 bottle Beaujolais Nouveau or dry red wine

Directions

  1. 1. Cut a thin slice from the watermelon side or bottom so that it will not roll.

    2. Cut a plug, about 2 inches across and deep into the watermelon.

    3. With a turkey baster filled with the Beaujolais, push it gently into the melon and slowly squeeze out the wine. 
    Add as much as possible, you may not be able to inject the whole bottle. 

    4. Replace the plug, seal it with packaging tape and refrigerate overnight. 
    To serve: 
    Before cutting, remove the plug and pour out the liquid into a bowl. Put the watermelon-flavoured wine into a pitcher and serve chilled along with the cut-up watermelon pieces
