Local Events and Fiestas

The 21st Kite festival was held on Burro beach last weekend. As usual, this popular event was well attended by people from many different countries.

The festival was started (21 years ago) by a Czechoslovakian who sadly died on the island a few years back, but the tradition is being kept up by a German couple, Wolf and Marie and Jacinto, a Canarian.

The festival is not competitive, people come along because they love flying kites and meeting up with like minded people.

There was a huge variety of kites on display, take a look for yourselves.

From the more traditional...

... to the comic...

... to the surreal ...

.. and this has to be a Spanish entry!

Animals, birds and fish were very popular...

... including the Fuerte goat!

My favourites were the geometric ones...

.. and I loved this spiritual one...

... whereas this was downright spooky!

The sense of camaraderie was evident

I loved these ground crawling ladybirds!

And finally, no kite festival would be complete without....

Surfbum also paid the festival a visit and here are some of his photos.
