Yes, I know fish and chips or the ubiquitous pizzas are great once in a while but you miss out on an essential aspect of a country if you don’t at least give the local food a try while visiting or living in Spain.

Elaine FergusonAs summer fades and winter rears its ugly head, out come the atlases to plan a sunny Christmas break for those living in cooler climes. Sun and a beach holiday are high on the agenda and those living on Fuerteventura know that for most of the year the island fits the bill.

In recent years Fuerte residents have become used to quieter winters: it seems the Canaries fell out of favour as a winter break with Morocco stepping up to the plate, but this may be about to change - and not only with holiday makers.
