Majanicho 1 smallMajanicho is a small hamlet located on a sheltered bay approximately half way between Corralejo and El Cotillo on the track that follows the north shore. It can also be reached by taking the paved road from Lajares by the football ground. This picturesque village consists of a scattering of houses, some quite makeshift, around the bay. There are no restaurants or shops.

Many locals have homes here that they use for weekend or holiday trips. One of the qualities of this location that drew them was its isolation, giving it a real feeling of getting away from it all. The development of a large holiday complex, Origo Mare, close by has certainly brought more tourists to the vicinity, but its unlikely that many of them will actually leave the complex where there are facilities to cater for them. It is a popular surf spot, although entry can be tricky due to the reefs, and it's on the route for the quad bike tours, so the tourist world is never very far away. If you are looking to explore away from the busy resort of Corralejo or the quieter fishing village of El Cotillo, then this is well worth a visit.

Below, Steve Goldsmith, an active member of the Corralejo Camera club, shares some of his pictures of this village. If you want to obtain a high resolution copy of any of these pictures, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
