Port Expansion Needed

Fuerteventura will have the necessary investment to expand the dock of Puerto del Rosario - residents are assurared

The national deputy, Celia Alberto, and the senator for Fuerteventura, Claudio Gutiérrez, meet in Madrid with the president of Puertos del Estado, José Llorca

November 9, 2017. The Quay of Puerto del Rosario will have an investment of more than 25 million euros for the extension of the dam within the Business Plan of the Port Authority. This has been confirmed by the president of Puertos del Estado, José Llorca, the national deputy, Celia Alberto, and the senator for the island of Fuerteventura, Claudio Gutiérrez at the meeting held this week in Madrid. "The Government of Spain has been once again sensitive to the demands that we have been moving, where we have always opted for an investment that would allow for a more competitive, commercial and better adapted dock to save the inclement weather and solve the problem of docking in an island that is supplied almost 100% of the products that come from outside, "says Celia Alberto.

Ports of the State foresees in its Business Plan for the year 2018 the budgetary appropriation that allows the drafting of the project, afterwards, to be able to start bidding and execute the extension from the year 2019.  "The Government of Spain bets once more for Fuerteventura ", says Fernando Enseñat, president of the Popular Party of Fuerteventura. "The extension of the Puerto del Rosario dock is a necessity to make the main port of the island more operational and competitive, it is a vindication of the dock workers who have also transferred the need to maintain the facilities by the Port Authority. of Las Palmas, to which we will ask for the improvement of the edge of the port in terrible state conservation ".

The president of Puertos del Estado, José Llorca, will soon visit the dock in Puerto del Rosario to see first-hand the port area and all the needs it presents. "An opportunity to show that the need to increase the dam is more than justified by the lack of operation that we have moved the different groups working in the capital's dock when more than two ships arrive at port," said the senator majorero, Claudio Gutiérrez.

The berthing line of the Puerto del Rosario wharf is just over a kilometer long, in which no more than three vessels can be found, which usually arrive at the port, "so this extension and the investment of the Government of Spain to increase the berthing line is excellent news for the island. " In addition, Llorca will also visit the islet of Lobos where Puertos del Estado plans to invest 100,000 euros for the improvement of the wharf in 2017 and 200,000 for the 2018 fiscal year.
