More travel discounts....

Many residents of the Canary Islands are currently enjoying the benefits of a 75 per cent discount on travel between all the islands...

Yet there is only a 50 per cent discount for travel to the Spanish Peninsular.

Government representatives from the Canary Islands are joining colleagues from the Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla to request an increase in the residents’ travel discount to the Peninsular from 50 per cent to 75 per cent.

Government representatives are meeting in Palma de Mallorca to address the transport problems that islands face, due to their distance from the Peninsula. This Transport Summit of Extra-Peninsular Territories, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla will be the first to be held. It will take place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Territory, Energy and Mobility.

Councillors responsible for transport within the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Ceuta and Melilla and the representatives of shipping companies and major airlines will be in attendance, together with representatives from business organisations involved in air and maritime transport, the Association of Spanish Air Transport Companies (ACETA); the Spanish Association of Airlines (AECA), and the Association of Airlines (ALA).

Possible extension of the current subsidy in air and maritime transport between the islands and the Peninsula will be discussed, with an aim to increase the subsidy for residents from 50 per cent to 75 per cent.
