Ana, the storm: the effects

The edge of the low pressure storm Ana, which hit the archipelago this week, brought rain, violent squalls and evensnow on Mount Teide.

In Puerto de la Cruz, the wind peaked at around 10pm with speeds of up to 174 kilometres per hour. Anything exceeding 118 kilometres per hour is considered a hurricane. At the Izaña station in the Teide National Park, gusts were recorded at a peak of 111 kilometres per hour.

The storm hit the northern metropolis on the coast.  At the Plaza de los Reyes Católicos, a deck chair was lifted from a roof terrace and almost hit a tourist.  Heavy rain and storms hit Fuerteventura.   Great caution was advised because of the heavy swell on the coasts.
