Control The Mosquito

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands reported this week that it intends to intensify surveillance and controls of the mosquito transmitter of diseases known as Aedes aegypti in Fuerteventura

This initiative means that there will be a greater number of mosquito traps, and this work involves the collaboration of workers from local municipalities and town halls. Two biologists have been hired to deal with these tasks, and will be permanently located in Fuerteventura, and who will supervise, coordinate and execute the efforts to detect, control and eradicate Aedes aegypti mosquito.

The press release explained that different measures will be adopted, such as placing different types of traps, door-or-door surveys and the application of specific biocides in homes, common areas and the environment where specimens have been detected.

The Ministry of Health also confirmed that since the previous treatments with biocides were carried out, no more stings have been reported by this invasive mosquito, nor have larvae or pupae eggs been detected.
