Royal Python captured in Fuerteventura

Thanks to the cooperation and attention of local residents, a royal python (also known as a ball python) was captured in Betancuria in Fuerteventura.

A Guardia Civil Seprona environmental protection unit took the young reptile into custody. After it was first housed in an animal shelter in Puerto del Rosario, it was handed over on Monday to the Oasis Park zoo in Fuerteventura where it will find optimal conditions.

The police on this occasion pointed out once again that the freeing of animals which can compete with the native fauna or species, is punishable by law. The amount of the fine varies between €3,001 and €200,000, depending on the severity and damage caused.
