Donkeys rescued

The Town Hall of Pajara, the Asociacion del Burro, the zoo Oasis Park at La Lajita and the Government of Fuerteventura have worked together to rescue the wild donkeys currently living in Morro Jable

These donkeys have been sharing space with tourists walking along the sea avenue or eating the grass of parks and gardens, and have occasionally caused small incidents with traffic, and have displayed serious health conditions for some time.

Local residents and animal protection groups have denounced this situation due to the state of health and living conditions of this herd of wild donkeys living in the area of Jandia. This is the only herd of wild donkeys currently living in an urban environment in Spain.

These donkeys have been transferred this week to the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm at another location in Fuerteventura, where they will receive appropriate veterinary treatments, before they are transferred to a space that does not pose a risk to donkeys or to people.
