Historic Site in Fuerteventura Soon to be Open to the Public

The Government of Fuerteventura, Antigua City Council and the Tourism Entrepreneurs Association of Antigua this week announced that they are joining together to manage the opening to the public of the Tower of San Buenaventura in Caleta de Fuste.

This is a fortress dating from the Eighteenth Century, which aims to turn this into a tourist, cultural and dynamic reference for this tourist area on the island.

This tower is classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and an Artistic Historical Monument, and this was restored five years ago by the Government of Fuerteventura.

The Director of the Museum Network, Jose Juan Herrera said “The first meetings were a contract to unify the criteria and to share this initiative, as we all share a strength with the history and characteristics of the Tower of San Buenaventura, so that we can open its doors to the public to be enjoyed for its historical, social, cultural or tourist interest.

This tower is privately owned by the Barcelo chain of hotels. Therefore, these institutions and entrepreneurs want to find ways of purchasing the property from the current owner.
