Road improvements.

This week, Pablo Rodriguez, Vice President of the Government of the Canary Islands announced that this year Fuerteventura will receive over 100 million euros to improve its road network

THis is roads such as the road section between the airport and Las Salinas, the Pecenescal to Morro Jable connection and the link between Parque Holandes and La Caldereta Highway.

This investment was announced at a working meeting between Pablo Rodriguez and Marcial Morales, President of the Government of Fuerteventura to review the road projects that are currently in progress, and those that should start soon.

The Government of Fuerteventura had previously requested that the Government of the Canary Islands carry out improvements between the airport and El Castillo, but it was pointed out that although agreement had been approved by the State, this presents an alternative of between the airport and Pozo Negro, and “it is not possible to include in the new document two infrastructures whose projects pursue the same goal.” However, it is still hoped that this could be studied further, so that the project estimated to cost around 10 million euros could be financed by the Canary Islands Development Fund, so the Government of Fuerteventura would then have the capacity to complete this new route.

Pablo Rodriguez said that by the end of this year, “over 30% of the North-South Axis Road of Fuerteventura will have been completed, and once the Government of Spain gives approval to the new highway agreement, new projects will begin and next year will see 50% completion of the road project that will give structure to the socioeconomic development of the island.”
