Prison sentence for drug traffickers.

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced ten people for drug trafficking on the island of Fuerteventura, including four Guardia Civil officers, and two others for being accomplices in the case known as Botavara.

This trial was held in June, which judged the drug trafficking gang was led by five Guardia Civil officers.

One of the defendants who attended the trial – the fifth Guardia Civil officer – was acquitted of drug trafficking, but convicted of a crime of violent behaviour.

The sentence establishes penalties of between four and nine years in prison for six of the accused, as well as absolute disqualification for a total of 11 years and a fine of 3.4 million euros for the four agents for drug trafficking, violent aggression and obstruction of justice.
