Olive Oil Award

The extra virgin olive oil, marketed under the brand Teguerey, in Fuerteventura, has won the fourth contest arranged by the Government of Tenerife.

The winning olive oil product has achieved the maximum distinction of the contest, the ‘Gran Oliva de Oro’, which credits it as the best extra virgin olive oil of the Canary Islands for 2018.

Another award in this contest, the ‘Oliva de Oro’ award for the best extra virgin olive oil was awarded to the Palmaoliva brand from the area of Los Canarios in Fuencaliente in La Palma.

The ‘Silver Olive’ award considered four other olive oils from the Canary Islands. One was ‘Hacienda Jimenez Tres Olivos’ from Antigua in Fuerteventura, another was Finca Noel from Tijoco-Adeje in Tenerife, and another was Agroturismo La Gayria from Tuineje in Fuerteventura. The award was finally presented to Finca Noel.

Jesus Morales, Minister of Agriculture explained “This contest was to promote the production of olive oil as a quality product with high added value for marketing. The Government wants to support this contest to find a crop that has shown a great capacity for expansion on the islands.”

A total of 29 samples from 14 producers from Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma and Fuerteventura participated in this fourth olive oil contest, and nine passed through to the presentation section.
