Passenger terminal update.

The refurbishment of the surroundings of the Gran Tarajal passenger terminal in Gran Tarajal in Fuerteventura was this week awarded to PuertosCanarios with a budget of over 176,000 euros.

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport of the Government of the Canary Islands issued a statement that explained that this work will allow improved management of pedestrian access and better manoeuvrability of large heavy vehicles, as well as improved organisation of parking spaces.

This project also includes the adaption of the space that connects the current Gran Tarajal promenade with access to the pier, and new surfaces for the passenger terminal, and will be in accordance with the international code for the Protection of Ships and Port Facilities (ISPS).

The managing director of Puertos Canarios, Manuel Ortega said that this work had been planned since last year, and aims to improve the image of the area faced by the arrival of cruise ship passengers in the 2018/2019 season. He also stressed that this project will not only focus on the movement of small and medium-sized vessels, but also will promote better facilities for nautical sports. He also said that the port of Gran Tarajal will have better connectivity and an improved tourist image, but went on to explain that this new project is in addition to the repairs and refurbishment of the surrounding marshlands, which had a previous investment budget of 70,000 euros.

Puertos Canarios will now have four months to complete this project.
